Fisher & Paykel Tāmaki Campus - Auckland

The new Fisher & Paykel East Tāmaki Campus brings together modern workplace design, high performance solar control glazing and operational functionality within a complex live site redevelopment.

Project Overview

Built on a site with decades of Kiwi manufacturing history, the new Fisher & Paykel East Tāmaki Campus marks a significant transformation for the business. The development combines a state-of-the-art distribution centre with contemporary office spaces, carefully delivered across an active site where existing operations continued throughout construction.

Metro Glass supplied and installed SunX™ Grey solar control double glazing across the project’s three new buildings. With large east and west facing façades, managing solar heat gain and glare was a key consideration in the glazing design. SunX™ Grey was selected for its strong solar performance, helping create comfortable, naturally lit interior spaces while supporting the building’s energy efficiency goals.

Acoustic performance was also critical due to the site’s roadside location. To improve occupant comfort, the glazing incorporated a PVB laminated inner pane, achieving an STC rating of 40 and helping reduce external noise throughout the workspace.

Unique Project Requirements

The project required a carefully considered glazing solution that could respond to orientation, acoustic demands, and architectural detailing without compromising performance or appearance. Alongside the large format façades, the south elevation incorporated custom shaped double glazed units, adding another layer of complexity to manufacturing and installation.

Working within a live operational environment also required careful staging and coordination throughout the installation process. Metro’s commercial glazing team delivered the project efficiently while maintaining site safety and minimising disruption to ongoing operations.

The finished Green Star 5 building demonstrates how thoughtful glazing selection can contribute to comfort, sustainability, and architectural quality - creating a modern workplace designed for long term performance.
