Lake Wānaka Reflections
-
Completed2026
With high UV levels, intense summer sun, strong reflected glare from the water and cold Otago winters, glazing performance was a critical consideration from the outset. The brief called for a solution that could deliver architectural beauty alongside exceptional thermal performance.
Project Requirements
High insulative value suitable for alpine winters
Advanced solar control to manage summer heat gain
Reduced glare reflecting off the lake’s surface
Enhanced privacy without compromising views
The Solution
To achieve this, the home was specified with Metro’s SunX™ Reflect Low E triple glazing, delivering an elevated level of performance for such challenging conditions, while providing:
Superior thermal efficiency for year round comfort
Reduced solar heat gain during peak summer months
Significant glare reduction from the lake
Increased daytime privacy
Fading protection for interior finishes
A refined, contemporary external aesthetic
The subtle reflective finish complements the surrounding landscape, softly mirroring sky and water tones while reducing the visual impact of large glazed expanses.
Resource Consent Considerations
Given the reflective nature of the glazing and the home’s prominent lakeside position, resource consent approval was a key project consideration. The specified SunX™ Reflect triple glazing met these requirements and successfully achieved consent.
The Result
The completed residence delivers uninterrupted views of Lake Wānaka with improved interior comfort, thermal stability and glare control across all seasons. Through the integration of high performance triple glazing, the home achieves a seamless balance between design intent, environmental responsiveness and long term liveability.
