Project Overview
Set in the heart of Dargaville, the new Sacred Heart Church windows bring a fresh perspective to a traditional place of worship. Working within an operational church, the project involved replacing existing glazing to create a renewed visual identity - one that respects the building’s heritage while introducing a contemporary expression of light and colour.
Rather than replicating traditional stained glass, the design reinterprets it. Laminated safety glass with PET coloured interlayers was used to achieve the same sense of warmth and symbolism, while delivering improved durability, safety, and clarity. The result is a space that feels both familiar and revitalised, where light continues to play a central emotional and architectural role.
Unique Project Requirements
Although modest in scale, the project required careful coordination and a strong design led approach. Close collaboration with the client was key to refining colour palettes and translating a vision into a practical glazing solution that balanced tradition with modern performance. Consistency across multiple elements from curtain wall panels to louvre blades - demanded precision in both material selection and fabrication.
Installation within a live church environment added another layer of complexity, requiring thoughtful staging and minimal disruption to the community. The outcome reflects not just technical expertise, but a considered approach to craftsmanship - where heritage values are preserved through modern materials, ensuring the space remains relevant and inspiring for years to come.
