Project Overview
This project was a transformative renovation of a 1950s Sunday School Hall located in Andersons Bay, Dunedin, into a modern private residence and guest house, bridged by an innovative glasshouse. This project seamlessly marries the preservation of historical architecture with cutting edge glass design, enhancing both the functionality and the aesthetic appeal of the building.
Winner of the WGANZ Supreme Award 2024 the renovation has not only revitalised a historically significant site but has also introduced an architectural landmark to the Andersons Bay area. Being recognised as the Grand Designs NZ #1 project for 2023 highlights the project's significant impact on the local architectural landscape.
Unique Project Requirements
The installation of bespoke glass panels and louvres presented a complex challenge, requiring high precision and expert craftsmanship. Each piece of toughened and heat soaked glass for the glasshouse structure was custom designed to fit within the heritage constraints of the building, ensuring that the modern additions did not detract from the historical essence. Additionally double glazed internal and end walls to both accommodation areas, supplied and installed by Ellison’s Aluminium, extend these elements even further into all living areas of the residence. Our team's expertise in bespoke glass solutions was crucial to overcoming any and all challenges and successfully executing this intricate installation.
