Wellesley Street Carpark - Auckland

Project Overview

One of the best-looking car-parks you are likely to see, and probably the last above the ground car-park to be built in Auckland. Les Mills Auckland opened its flagship car-park at the start of this year. Metro worked with the architect and the client throughout the process. From structural design to shop drawings, and layup of the custom made digitally printed and laminated glass panes. Metro installed the 33 custom made panels for the canopy to bring the design concept to life. The digitally printed pattern was designed as a continuation of the triangular façade above. The pattern changes thickness to emulate the diagrid members of the canopy. The frit provides shading from the afternoon sun whilst also casting shadows that activate the pavement below. The internal stairwell and rooftop balustrades were also key components of the build.
